In 1983 Scott started working at a Cincinnati area newspaper chain and soon moved to Indianapolis to work for the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ), a part of the American Cities Business Journal (ACBJ) chain. It was here that he began using computers for layout production. In 1987, the publisher for IBJ recruited Scott to help start the Rochester Business Journal in Rochester, New York.
After a successful start-up in Rochester, Scott moved to Nashville to work as a designer and later Creative Director for a National Advertising/PR agency. From there, in 1989, Scott was hired as the Director of Creative Services for a Business presentation company. Here he was introduced to interactive and instructional technologies. His clients included: Northern Telecom, Quorum Health, Bridgestone/Firestone and Saturn.
In 1991 Scott moved back to the Cincinnati area as Creative Director for a computer-based training company. In 1992 Scott co-founded The Human Element, Inc. (THE) and became sole owner in 1996. In the 11 years that Scott ran THE, they managed to create over 350 learning solutions for approximately 150 clients. THE's clients included: Procter & Gamble, General Electric Aircraft, Kellogg, Kmart, Target, Price Waterhouse, Toyota, FAA and Oracle.
In 2003, THE and TiER 1 combined talents to broaden each other's product and services offering.
Scott is also an accomplished mandolin player in a local band that has won 3 CAMMY (Cincinnati Enquirer Music Awards) and 2 CEA (Cincinnati Entertainment Awards) Awards.
